Spray Underseal - 27/06/04

A common problem with Suzuki SJ's and Samurai's is rust. My Samurai is no exception but fortunately the damage is pretty limited. I decided a good coat of underseal around the wheel arches and sills would be a good idea to stop any more rust forming. I've also just hammered round the protruding seams in the front arches to make sure they don't catch on the tyres so the original underseal there was damaged.

I borrowed my dads compressor and spray gun to apply the underseal. You can paint it on with a brush but I wanted to get a better finish and really make sure it got into all the little cracks and holes. I reckon I would have ended up black myself using a brush too! The spray gun struggled a bit to pull the thick underseal up the pipe but it did a great job.

I made sure everything I didn't want covered in underseal was well protected with plastic including my mate James' drive!

Masking everything up

Here's me spraying the first arch, note the goggles and mask, I didn't fancy breathing that stuff in!

Here's James spraying the other side for me and doing a better job I reckon. Cheers mate!

Spraying other arch

Ah much better, all black and shiny! That should keep the rust at bay for a fair while.

This is where I hammered the body seams over flat. It's all nicely protected again now.
