Bought a MIG Welder - 20/04/05

I finally bought myself a MIG welder! I've been stripping the carpets out of the truck ready to paint the floor with Protectakote. The carpets were getting more and more filled with mud and I decided it was time to make the Samurai more washable inside. When I took out the passenger seat I found that the floor had cracked around one of the bolt holes.

Having got a quote for fixing the floor of over a hundred pounds I thought I may as well buy a MIG and learn to do it myself. Once I'd burnt lots of holes and made loads of blobs on a scrap piece of metal I got the hang of things and welded up the cracks in the floor. I then fixed a rusty hole I'd found under the boot carpet by welding a new plate over it. It's not the most perfect repair ever but I'm quite proud of it!

By now I was getting in the swing of things and decided to make a nice bracket for my hi-lift jack. It's been banging around in the boot threatening to behead me for ages so I'm really happy to have it mounted now. It slips in at one end and then locks in place at the other with a wing nut. Some sticky back rubber pads kindly donated by my sister make it nice and quiet!

Now that I can do my own welding I'll be doing some more interesting projects for myself and I'm sure practice will make perfect ish!
